How do I use a tampon?

I'm going to assume one key fact with this question.  You know the reason for using a tampon.  They absorb menstrual flows.  You can either use a tampon or a pad.  I'd also like to mention the fact that the tampon can't get stuck inside or lost inside of a person.  There's nowhere for it to go.  Also, a person can still go to the bathroom while wearing a tampon.

First step, wash your hands.  You are dealing with openings to the body, so it's important to pay attention to infection control right from the start.

Step two, sit on the toilet.  Alternatively you can stand in a sort of squat position.

Step three, hold the tampon correctly.  Hold it between your thumb and middle finger. Put your index finger on the end of the applicator where the string comes out.

Step four, know your anatomy.  The tampon gets inserted into the vagina.  Not the anus.  Not the urethra.

Step five, insert the tampon.  Thicker half goes in.  Go slowly to avoid discomfort.

Step 6, pull out the applicator.  If you have done everything correctly, you shouldn't feel any discomfort.

Side note, don't flush the applicator.  It causes plumbing damage.
