Miss Thomas will play the role of Bud's mother in his new life. She is a caring woman who looks out for Bud throughout the novel. She convinced Herman to let him stay at the house and is understanding of Bud's difficult position. Music will play a huge part in Bud's new life. Bud's grandfather is musically talented, and Bud is extremely excited to begin practicing on his new alto saxophone. At the end of the novel, he is hoping that Steady Eddie comes early to begin giving him lessons. Constantly being around a band and continually practicing on his instrument will make Bud a successful musician in the future.
